Maggie is a charmed kitten if ever one lived…her story tells it all

Our receptionist, Judy, accidentally answered a call after regular office hours one September evening. The Mansfield Police had picked up a tiny kitten and the worried volunteer who made the call was hoping we would take a look at her. Drs. McMillan and Holmes just happened to still be in the clinic and decided to stay late to examine the foundling. What they saw was a dirty, maggot infested black and white kitty who could not stand on her back legs. From the pattern of her wounds, it looked like Maggie had been picked up by an eagle or a large hawk and then dropped. She must have struggled to the roadside where she was found. The Windhover staff painstakingly cleaned her and dressed her wounds. There was something special about this feisty little cat that captured our hearts and we committed ourselves to her healing and recovery.

Maggie endured daily bandage changes, medications and diapers! She started physical therapy to regain mobility in her legs and now gets therapy and acupuncture twice a week. While she sometimes protests her physical therapy, her cooperation increases all the time. Highly food motivated, adding special treats, like chicken can entice Maggie to walk up her special foam stairs. In recent weeks, Maggie has begun to take two or three consecutive steps with her hind legs. Her physical therapists have high hopes for her continued progress. She has also started recieving acupuncture treatments which help with her pain management.

Maggie has a mind of her own and talks quite a bit to let us know when she approves or disapproves of what we are doing. She is funny and extremely playful. She is endlessly curious and can be found zooming down our hallways in her cart as she runs off to investigate a new sight or sound, or especially a new smell!

Maggie is the latest animal to take up temporary residence at the Windhover and while we all love her very much, each of us would like Maggie to find a forever home.

If you or someone you know would be interested in helping Maggie to find that home, please contact Dr. McMillan.
