The first person on record in more than 75 years to contract rabies in Massachusetts has been confirmed by state public health officials. Rabies is always considered fatal.

It is required by law to have current rabies vaccination for your pet regardless of how limited the risk of exposure may be. Even "indoor only" cats are at risk due to the possibility of a rabid bat entering the home.
